This week we explore maintenance care pros and cons, patience with results, and revisiting the mental impulse. Want to write for the Tribune? Check out this link. - ED.
ART
I loved this article from the American Chiropractor reminding chiropractors that healing takes time.
Most spinal problems occur due to slow erosion of normal movements, tissue damage, and inflammation. It's important not to expect quick fixes and miracles with new patients.
Tissues heal at different speeds. Not every patient can be Harvey Lillard.
SCIENCE
The Nordic Maintenance Care Program: Patient Experience - A Qualitative Study
The study explored patient experiences with Maintenance Care, examining obstacles and supports for following the care plan.
While many reported benefits of maintenance care, some barriers included “cost, a sense of low value, perceived as unavailable and fear of treatment.”
The results revealed both positive and negative experiences with Maintenance Care among patients in these subgroups, offering insights for clinicians and researchers aiming to improve patient-perceived care quality.

PHILOSOPHY
A New Model for the Mental Impulse
I’ve been meaning to write an article about modernizing the concept of subluxation. It's a big task, but not impossible.
A few years ago, Dr. Joe Strauss gave it a shot with the mental impulse. It's a good but long read, but he makes a point that non-synaptic communication in the body lacks a scientific explanation:
“Of all the difficult, most ignored and poorly explained terms in chiropractic, the mental impulse is the greatest victim.” And, “Mental Impulses Unlike nerve impulses, these impulses are not particulate. They are metaphysical, imparting information to the cell. They inform the cell of what to do and how to act in a coordinated manner with all the other cells of the body for the good of the organism. To date, there is no physical means of measuring these impulses inasmuch as they are metaphysical.”
